Last week, we were living a favorite poem by Wendell Berry. We always enjoy the peace of walking in nature along the Appalachian Trail.
“When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief.
I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light.
Looks like a great trip. Being out in such beautiful places always does feel so poetic.

What an amazing and spiritual experience that must have been, Jill. I’m so happy you were able to share it with your daughter, as well – doubly blessed!

We definitely enjoy each other more when we are outdoors together! And I treasure these trips to the mountains to fill my soul with enough beauty to last until our next trip…
